Although there is anecdotal evidence from MM patients and their oncologists suggesting that many patients face challenges with accessing care, very little has been done to quantify these access issues. To address this lack of information, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Avalere Health are launching the first ever survey of the barriers MM patients face when trying to receive care. Barriers to care might include:

  • Problems finding an oncologist that is knowledgeable about myeloma
  • Issues related to transportation to and from appointments
  • Concerns with the cost of treatment and insurance coverage

This type of research is important so we may better understand the specific barriers that affect MM patients and to develop policy options that can better address these barriers.
